1. Change 50/6 to a mixed number. Simplify this result. Then express it as a decimal.
2. What is 5-3/11 expressed as an improper fraction? As a decimal?
3. Simplify 286 / 26.
4. In a survey of 50 people, 35 said they had eaten chicken during the past week. What fraction of the people had eaten chicken?
ANSWERS
1. 50/6 = 8 2/6, which simplifies to 8 1/3. As a decimal, this is 8.33.
2. (11x5) + 3 = 58. The improper fraction is 58/5. As a decimal, 5 and 3/11 is 5.27. If you use the toggle key on the built-in calculator, you can convert this directly.
3. You can see that 26 is a multiple of 13. Experimenting, divide 286 by 13. The answer is 22. So the fraction reduces to 22/2, or 11. If you use the built-in calculator you can find this answer directly.
4. The fraction is 35/50, which reduces to 7/10.

This page uses a) the green "2nd" key, b) the grey "n/d" fraction key, c) the black left, up, right and down keys, and d) the white "<>" toggle key. Note that the "2nd" and "n/d" keys together produce an improper fraction.
1. To get the decimal: press on and clear. Key in 50. Press ÷ . Key in 6. Press enter. The screen should show "8.3333..." You cannot convert 50/6 to a mixed number with the calculator. Do this manually by noting that 6 goes into 50 8 times, with two left over, so that the mixed number is 8-2/6 = 8-1/3.
2. Press on and clear. Key in 5. Press 2nd and n/d (the fraction key). Key in 3. Press the down key. Key in 11. Press enter. The screen should read "52/11". Then press the <> toggle key. The screen should now read "5.27....".
3. Press on and clear. Key in 286. Press ÷ . Key in 26. Press enter. The screen should read "11".
4. Press on and clear. Key in 35. Press ÷ . Key in 50. Press enter. The screen should read "0.7". Press the <> key. The screen should now read "7/10".
