WORD PROBLEM SKILLS
Many of the test's word problems employ a standard formula. This section covers eight such formulas, listed below. In a few other problems there is no standard formula, so you must create your own equation or equations. These are covered here also.
To solve problems with a standard formula, you must first recognize which standard formula applies, then plug numbers from the question into the formula, and then complete the calculations. Here is a video from ehow.com which emphasizes finding the right formula.
Most standard formulas are provided on the test's formula sheet. Exactly the same sheet is available on the Free Practice Test, here. You have to remember the formulas for (a) markups and markdowns, (b) angles and triangles, and (c) 3-4-5 right triangles.
